An enemy nurtures enmity and takes interest only in that

Blood spot is not washed by blood. It can be washed by water. Similarly, enmity cannot be overcome by enmity. That can be won through peace, forgiveness, forbearance, love. However, some persons are such that they want to conquer enmity with enmity. Such people want to extinguish fire by kerosene, not through water. What sort of foolishness is this? There were two brothers named Shivbhuti and Vasubhuti. Shivbhuti’s wife was attracted towards her husband’s younger brother Vasubhuti and tried to seduce him. Vasubhuti was agitated by her obscenity and thought, “Alas! these passions and attachments claim unworthy demands. I will not surrender myself to them.’’ With the feeling’s of asceticism, he took vows. Kamalshri came to know about this. She still longed him and didn’t confess her verbal and mental sins. King of Manduka Country, Shelak was very much impressed by the sermon of Thavacchaputra and he took 12 vows of Shravak-laymen. Again, when ShukaAcharya came in that country, his sleeping soul awoke and he abandoned the whole kingdom, opted and took diksha. Panthak with five hundred ministers also did the same. Gradually Muni Shelak was made Acharya and Leader of 500 pupils. Once, his body was overpowered by some unknown disease. Mahamantri Abhaykumar


The message of Bhagwan Mahavir had spread far and wide and the impact was felt by the common people as well as the kings and the emperors. One of the chief devotees of Bhagwan Mahavir was Shrenik Bimbisar, the king of Magadh. His son Abhaykumar was also Mahavir’s chief devotee and there are historical references about him in the records of the Swetambara and Digambara tradition, and also in the ancient Buddhist Majjhima Nikaya.
