Infatuation only is accumulation

Infatuation only is accumulation

मुच्छा परिग्गहो वुत्तो

Infatuation only is called accumulation (parigraha)

Infatuation or attachment only is accumulation (parigraha). What all surrounds us from all sides is not called parigraha; but the thing, which we consider as our own means and that on which our attachment is aroused, that only is called parigraha. Criticizer wanders

Criticizer wanders

जो परिभवइ परं जणं,
संसारे परिवत्तई महं

One who criticizes, wanders in the world

All are great – one more than another. Someone is better than the other, and other is better than someone else. Someone is great because of one reason, someone else because of some particular reason. Therefore, we should not commit the mistake of underestimating anyone. Continue reading “Criticizer wanders” »

Speak not harshly

Speak not harshly

नो वयणं फरूसं वइज्जा

Speech is of two kinds – harsh and mild. In angry and cruel mood, it is crude; and mild when one is humble and quiet. Speech of kindness, compassion, sympathy, love, relations, affection, and deceit is mild. Against this, speech of cruelty, aversion, anger, haughtiness is discordant. As fearless as a Lion

As fearless as a Lion

सीहो व सद्देण न संतसेज्जा

Be fearless as a lion; fear not the words

How fearless is the lion! He is not afraid of the elephant’s trumpet. Though, his body is much smaller than the elephant, still, his bravery, his courage awakens praiseworthy fearlessness in him which makes him careless about the trumpet also. Similarly, brave men also are not afraid of opponent’s challenge; those who fear, they are not brave; they are cowards. Continue reading “As fearless as a Lion” »
