जमट्ठं तु न जाणेज्जा, एवमेयंति नो वए
Until full information is not available on a subject, do not say,“This is this only”
Restraining the desires
छंदं निरोहेण उवेइ मोक्खं
Moksha (liberation) is possible through restraining of desires
Four followers (sravakas)
चत्तारि समणोवासगा-अद्दागसमाणे,
पडागसमाणे, ठाणुसमाणे, खरकंटगसमाणे
पडागसमाणे, ठाणुसमाणे, खरकंटगसमाणे
Devotees are of four kinds: like a mirror (of pure heart), like a flag (with a fickle mind), like a stump (perverted) and like a thorn (abusive)
Age is depleting
सेणे जह वट्टयं हरे, एवं आउखयंमि तुट्टइ
As the hawk kills the quail in one stroke, so also after completion of age, death takes away life
An opportunity for self improvement
अत्तहियं खु दुहेण लब्भइ
An opportunity for self-improvement is got with difficulty
How wicked is the evil word
वाया दुरुत्ताणि दुरुद्धराणि,
वेराणुबंधीणि महब्भयाणि
वेराणुबंधीणि महब्भयाणि
Evil and harshly uttered words cause enmity and fear for ages
The detached aspirant
विरता हु न लग्गंति,
जहा से सुक्कगोलए
जहा से सुक्कगोलए
As a ball made of dry mud, detached aspirant is not attached
Obeisance to Acharyas
जत्थेव धम्मायरियं पासेज्जा,
तत्थेव वंदिज्जा नमंसिज्जा
तत्थेव वंदिज्जा नमंसिज्जा
Wherever Acharyas are seen, there only we should pay our obeisance and respect
